Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

An MVP is a working, deployed version of the product that helps validate the product strategy.

MVP, coined by Frank Robinson and popularized by Eric Ries & Steve Blank. Minimum Viable Product is the most basic and essential features needed for a product to be launched. Once we are done with our research and persona, we can identify the core features which are needed for our product to solve the problem. By combining the core features we can create the MVP. To achieve this we need to use two tools User Scenarios and User Stories.

Creating user scenarios and user stories helps in the process of defining MVP.

A minimum viable product has just those core features that allow the product to be deployed, and no more.

User Scenario-

The user scenario describes a situation in which the user faces the challenge that prompts them to solve the problem. It allows for an explanation of pain points and motivations and adds context.

Things to remember while writing scenarios:

  • Tell a story by creating a context for interaction between humans and the product.

  • Inform about location, device and other contextual details.

  • Describe motivations and highlight user expectations

  • The scenario will be based on the persona and target audience.

  • Multiple scenarios needed for multiple types of persona.

User Stories-

User stories are a one-liner summary of a feature told from the perspective of the user. User stories focus on one feature at a time.

How to write the User Stories-

As a user, I want to do this so that way I benefit.

Few examples of user stories-

  • As a user, I want to get updates when someone commented on my post so I can stay updated.

  • As a user, I can filter the food based on veg/non-veg preference so that I can choose my favorite dish quickly.
